Painting and Reassigning Model Parts in the Slicer

Use the slicer to change colors and make sure every painted region uses the correct loaded filament.

1 · Before You Edit

Save the original color assignment

Use a file you are allowed to edit, select the correct printer and filament profiles, record the original color order, and save a separate working copy.

Choose the tool that matches the area

First select the filament number you want to apply. Then choose the simplest tool that fits the shape you need to color.

Brush

Circle

Paints a circular area on the visible surface. Use it for ordinary brush strokes, broad visible patches, and gradual edge work. Rotate the model and check the other side for missed areas.

Brush

Sphere

Paints every surface inside a three-dimensional sphere, including surfaces hidden from the current view. Use it to wrap color around rounded parts or edges. Check that it did not reach an unwanted surface.

Precision

Triangle

Paints individual triangular faces that make up the model’s surface. Use it for small details and exact boundaries. Results depend on the size and arrangement of the model’s triangles.

Bands

Height Range

Paints horizontal faces or a selected height band. Use it for stripes, bases, tops, or any color change that should begin and end at specific model heights.

Large Areas

Fill

Paints a connected surface area with one click. Use it for clearly separated regions that would take many brush strokes. Rotate the model afterward and inspect the filled boundary.

Cleanup

Gap Fill

Automatically fills small unpainted gaps within painted strokes according to the selected gap size. Use it after brushing to close tiny missed spaces, then inspect the result before slicing.

2 · Paint and Assign

Check every surface

Select the model region you want to recolor and assign the correct filament slot. Rotate the model to find missed spots, overlapping colors, or isolated painted areas.

3 · Match the Printer

Match each color to the loaded filament

Confirm that the slicer’s filament order matches the filament loaded in each physical toolhead or filament slot. Do not assume that the project file and printer use the same order.

4 · Verify the Slice

Preview every color change

Review the sliced model one layer at a time. Check the wipe tower, purge volume, and small color fragments. Update the filament list with the new colors and amounts.
